With support from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation Bhoruka initiated a project at Raxaul in June, 2001. The project has successfully moved towards its mission with major contributions in: Maternal Health, Child Survival and Immunisation & Family Planning. Programmes that included men's reproductive health as well as their concerns about relationships between men and women were more effective than those focused only on women.

Cross border interventionPantoka, Bhelahi and Siswa, the three Indo-Nepal border panchayats under Raxaul block with a population of about 25,166, are a favourite with girl traffickers who use them as transit points. Last year Bhoruka held 336 meetings with women groups on trafficking and other related issues. These meetings were held with the help of 207 trained community volunteers who had already undergone 17 training sessions.Since Raxaul shares its border with Nepal, which is a mandatory halt point for all Nepal-bound trucks & a transshipment for those who do not have the permit to enter into Nepal. Truck drivers and their helpers are prone to a series of occupational hazards like, uncertain employment, stringent delivery deadlines, high rate of accidents etc. Majority of them are addicted to alcohol & drugs and frequently have paid & unprotected sex. In July 1995, Bhoruka initiated a clinic based HIV/AIDS prevention project with services that ranged from clinical intervention, outreaching, STD management, counselling and condom promotion. This project is popularly known as the Indo-Nepal Cross Border Project.
